"The Garden, the Plaza and the Saint" is a contemporary public space project, ambitious in its scope, complete in its program and open and accessible to society, with a fundamental quality, the connection of Medieval Murcia with 21st century Murcia.

The aim is to observe and understand the urban layout of the Arrabal de la Arrixaca in its full scale and definition. Around the courtyard grows a 13th-century Andalusian garden that filters views and protects the archaeological remains. The garden controls access to the site by expanding and contracting, inspired by the geometry of the church and the palace. Above the garden and the plaza floats a light and subtle roof that protects the site and integrates the San Esteban complex. The roof creates a large shaded area and facilitates the installation of temporary markets.

The shadows cast by the roof, the garden, and the paving of the plaza create a unique architectural language that brings together each of the historical and cultural layers and periods of Murcia, making the San Esteban complex a public space of reference, fundamental for understanding the urban fabric and the history of the city of the three cultures, Murcia.
